Making it Matter
Two of the most frequent questions I am asked are “What can I do with my
degree (or my career path to date) to make a difference in the world?” and
“How do I move my idea forward to create real impact?” Career development
and generating change from a new idea have a lot more in common than you
may think. Both require some level of planning, building an ecosystem and,
importantly, being able to pivot and adjust to opportunities and
challenges.
I would like to have this conversation with you in two parts: the first,
a discussion of career development through the lens of my own career
starting as a graduate student at MIT. Second, we will look at some key
elements for translating an idea into impact with examples from several
early-stage ventures. I will share some reflections and best practices as
well as answer your questions – all of which I hope will be useful to you
as you tackle both of these important questions for yourself.
